Last night the Summit Taxpayers Association organized a night of action. The purpose was to rally a group of Summit leaders and residents to address our Union County Freeholders. Attendees voiced concern over the steep rise of the Union County portion of our property tax bill. Summit taxpayers were assessed $38.5MM by Union County in 2016, and have seen our Union County tax bill RISE BY 21% over the last five years (see graphic above). Our Union County Assessment crowds out critical expenditures in our schools and city, now taking 30% of our budget. We need to control our Union County taxes in order to be able to fund our schools and city services.
Summit Council President Mike McTernan and Ward II council woman Mary Ogden were present. In total two dozen Summit citizens exercised their civic duty in Elizabeth last night, a humbling show of support indeed. Thank you to all those who attended. Together we can accomplish great things to secure a strong future for Summit. To see the video of those attendees that spoke click here.
